Three Experiments of Different Kinds
In the early hours of 17th March 2020, over 70 weeks ago, I abruptly cancelled all our room sessions. On 10th April I tried a zoom chat with friends and on 15th April I tentatively opened the zoom door for our first group session, and the rest is history. Zoom was an experiment to see if somehow we could continue to practise together during our times of isolation. Zoom is now so very familiar to us, it feels normal to me. Thank you for your continued presence. For obvious reasons, I started the zoom experiment mirroring our room session times. Some of you joined the experiment and found it was for you and others didn't try it, or you did try it and discovered zoom wasn't for you. "Zoomers" though have gathered from different parts of this country and across the seas. This is an immense wonder to me and has resulted in another entirely loyal and dedicated group of you. We have had nearly 750 group zoom sessions over this time. You weren't there for all of them but I was and each and every session was a strengthening experience. I feel deeply grateful to work with you all, thank you.
I must now embark on another experiment: Can Room Sessions Work Again? On Thursday, I sent an email to everyone on my email list (please let me know if you didn't receive it), and I have been bowled over by the response. So many of you want to be in the room again. I know that many of you have been patiently waiting for room sessions to resume. You have trusted me with heaps of credit and not asked for a refund. I will be opening the room doors on 6th September, as previously announced in my blog of 14th June "Big Decison". The month of September will be an experimental month. I hope we can make it work. See you in the room after fourteen more sleeps!
However, and very importantly, I have just as many of you who want to continue with zoom only, and you are equally respected. I realise that the zoom schedule that we now know so well, and that seemed like a good idea back in April 2020 because it mirrored the room times, is now not so clever! So, please forgive me loyal Zoomers because the zoom schedule needs to change. Next week's blog will confirm everything but I think from 6th September the zoom schedule will look something like this:
Mondays 1130 am (not 11am) Barre, Chair, Standing Tuesdays 8 am Fundamental to Advanced (Wednesdays 2 pm Barre, Chair, Standing, only if there is a demand) Thursdays 8 am AND 9 am, Fundamental to Advanced
So, there will be eight room sessions and four/five zoom sessions from 6th September. I hope that this means that those of you who like at least two zoom sessions a week can continue this discipline with me.
Those of you who continue to practise with me online, this week's upload is Session 121, it's a thought experiment easing into movement of the shoulders. I take the moves from our fingers into our hands, arms and shoulders. It's ten minutes and is for anyone who is healing their shoulder strength after an injury or simply like me wants to keep aware, open, strong and mobile. We breathe and connect, imagine and prepare, feel, and when the preparation is there we ease into seemingly magical movement. I talk you through as always but, if you want to look at me, you'll see a close up of the muscles responding, preparing and creating movement. You are all very welcome to join me, Click here for 121 Online Sessions
So then, here's to the next experimental phase of our fluid journey through these challenging times. I will of course continue to evaluate and re-evaluate. Thank you for your patience, dedication, trust and respect. It is deeply appreciated.
