Cue the Move: The Pilates Promise - From the man himself; "In ten sessions you'll feel a difference, in twenty you'll see a difference and in thirty you'll have a new body". From me; "In six you'll feel you have control, in ten you'll know you have control, in twenty you'll be stronger all over and in thirty you'll be hooked!" I promise you, that everything we do in class is good for our bodies. Last week we created magic with our hamstring length and enjoyed the Jack Knife.
This week, I have promised that we'll look at Control Balance - you'll see the similarities to the Jack Knife. To prepare at home - you could enjoy the hamstring stretch we did in class last week? Keep your CCTV on your legs and remember how we lengthen them - not by locking the knees - but by lengthening from the heels upwards - both legs - inside and out. Now roll down, you know how. Looking through your legs - breathe and breathe and breathe. Use a resistance ball, or a pillow or two, on the floor in front of you and squish with your knuckles, let your spine hang out. Now place it to the right of your right foot and squish ten-ish times, then to the left of your left foot and squish. Now back to the centre and squish some more. Remember how we spent time and we breathed and breathed - now let your spine hang out some more, still looking through your legs and checking in with the length of the legs, now gently lift your tail and let your arms hang loose. Magic isn't it? See you in class and we'll find the jig-saw pieces that create and build a beautiful Control Balance. Accessible to all.
Please note this unchanged list of term-times:

News: I went to the most warm-blooded and up-lifting concert: "Birdsong" devised by Daniel Gethin. He arranged all the voices and we heard compositions from the sixteenth century onwards. Centre stage there were black birds, blue birds, swallows, turtle doves, swans, robins, cuckoos, sky larks and nightingales. Their chorus was divine and a cappella! - How do singers do that? Talent and technique, I guess? The practice and precision it must've taken for this remarkable choir - Myriad Singers - to deliver complex and beautiful arrangements with only their phenomenal voices, no other instruments, no tricks, no smoke or mirrors, no mics, just with the ease of birdsong. Even their movement to rearrange their line-up from one song to another seemed to glide, like watching birds safely flying in formation. I have to say at times they even looked like birds as they sang out! It's true, it reminded me of an exhibition I saw in Brighton in 2015 - Marcus Coates - Dawn Chorus. The evening has most certainly put the spring in my step and I've been chirping ever since! Spring is in the air and my garden is full of glorious surprises - Mother Nature at her best, as I don't remember ever planting all the wonder I am seeing springing up in every tub and corner. See you in class and EV and I'll be at Ema's on Monday from 230 pm. I eat one of their healthy meals and talk and catch up with anyone who turns up. Come join me, if you're ever free at that time.
